December 1, 2007 – The North/South Alliance (NSA) makes the following comments concerning the schedule of events for 2008:

The North/South Alliance (NS/A), a joint venture of the First Federal Division (FFD) and the Army of the Tennessee (AOT), plans and executes a long-range calendar for National level reenactments in the West, assuming a leadership role for successful reenacting campaigns.  General Steve Dunfee, commanding the First Federal Division, and General Mike Moore, commanding the Army of Tennessee, in consultation with their own organization’s leadership, have designated two events in 2008 as “NSA-recognized” events.

An NSA-recognized event is an event that has the following elements:
  • It has not met the criteria for being adopted as an official NSA hosted, sponsored, or sanctioned event;
    o It has not been planned, developed, or organized wholly by the Alliance in direct relationship with
        the Event Site Hosts;
    o There may be “jurisdictional” command autonomy for participants within each organization,
        but there is not overall command and control functions for the event;
    o The Army general staff functions and organizations are not fully necessary for the event;
    o Not all member organizations within the Alliance have voted to attend the event.
  • The Alliance recognizes the event as an opportunity for member organizations within the Alliance to attend;
    o Member organizations attending within each respective army (CSA/USA) will be “brigaded” together;
    o A sufficient number of member organizations within the Alliance have indicated support for attending the event;
    o Participation in the event by a member organization is “counted” toward fulfilling the requirements of event
        attendance for NSA purposes.

The first event is the Stand of Colors, hosted and presented by the Downtown Kansas City Missouri Rotary Club, which will take place on May 16-18, 2008, in and around Kansas City, MO.  Click here to see a discussion about the event on the NSA board.  A newsletter about the event has been sent out.  Click here to read To The Colors.    More information about the event can be found at www.standofcolors.com.

The second event is At High Tide, hosted and presented by the Western Maryland Heritage Foundation, which will take place on June 27-29, 2008 near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.  Click here for this topic on the NSA board.

The 2008 Annual Meeting of the North/South Alliance will be held January 28th, in Nashville, Tennessee at the Holiday Inn Nashville - The Crossings, where a continued discussion of upcoming events will occur.  Recent information can be found here on the NSA board.

Bulletin Board.  I've been asked about the Bulletin Board and how to get an account so you can post.  There are directions on the board, but simply... If you want to post, send an email to me (webmaster, aka Tom Grazioli) at tom<@>associatedcomputer.cc (leave out the < and > in the email address).  Put something meaningful on the subject line and don't be cute or the spam filters will get it.  Tell me who you're with.   If you're a commander or representative, I have no way of knowing that via email.   Ask someone to verify your position.  The Chief of Staff for the AoT or FFD would be adequate.

Staff Area.  The Staff Area has been changed with the advent of the bulletin board.  And it changed some more.  I had a nice form mail script that made it easy, but the spambots found it so I removed the thingy that was being exploited and the form stopped working.

If you're a Staff Member, you will see a category on the board's main page that general members don't see.  If you're an Executive Member, you will see a category that is not visible to the others.  As we've said in the past, Staff Members are considered to be those three or four people in charge of an NSA member unit.  Executive Members are branch, brigade and division commanders with their immediate staff.  If you are one of these people and have not received a name and password, send a note to me (webmaster, aka Tom Grazioli) at tom<@>associatedcomputer.cc (leave out the < and > in the email address).   As mentioned above, you'll need someone to verify your position.  Have your division Chief of Staff send me a note.
